This was a solo daytrip to the Catskills. I was breaking drifted snow much of the way, but it wasn't too hard to do. I didn't see another person on the trails all day, although I saw by the register that eight other people had summited Balsam that day.

Tanya and I hiked around a state forest in northwest Mass. We got a bit lost, but it didn't matter that much, since we were just hiking around and not working towards some goal.

Laura and I went to the White Mountains as part of our extended anniversary celebrations. Other family members came along as well. On Friday I climbed Cannon with my son MurMur and my nephew Kid Presentable. It was my fifth time there, but the first with views. On Saturday I climbed Waumbek in the rain with MurMur and Kid Presentable. On Sunday I climbed solo into a stratus cloud and onto Mt. Moriah.

When a planned hike to Killington fell through I switched it to a weekend peakbagging in the Dacks. It rained off and on all weekend, and I didn't get any views from Giant, but I did get some nice views from Hopkins, and got to spend the weekend in the wilderness

Every year hikers fly the American flag from each of the 4000 foot peaks in New Hampshire in remembrance of the victims of the theocratic attacks of September 2001. This year I again raised the flag on Middle Tripyramid, with old and new friend accompanying me. The day before I climbed Sandwich Dome, which is just 20 feet shy of being a 4000 footer.

My friend Whichway and I are both working on the New England Fifty Finest list, which is the fifty most prominent peaks in New England. We went to Maine, with Whichway's dog Delilah, and bagged three of them, while aborting an attempt at another.
On Saturday we climbed Big Spencer. This included my first real bushwhack.
On Sunday we attempted White Cap, but ended up aborting the hike.
On Monday we took two separate hikes, about a hundred miles apart. First we climbed Big Moose (formerly known as Big Squaw) and then Mount Blue, where a helicopter landed while we were there.

I spent the end and beginning of the years in the Whites with Laura again. We stayed in a motel and I took day hikes up into the mountains while she stayed in the valleys.
On Thursday I climbed Willey and Field in the Willey Range solo on a very cold day. On Friday I climbed North and Middle Tripyramid as part of a group accompanying a hiker finishing her New England 4000 footers. On Saturday I climbed Middle Carter in the Carter Range with my friends Big Earl and Trail Trotter (Sue). On Sunday I climbed Jefferson and Adams in the Presidential Range with Blue (Liza) and Mr. Blue (Mike).
